The Foundation is proud to help kids who have long and short term illnesses.
John himself spent much of his own childhood in hospital suffering from "brittle bones", knew how being in hospital was at times lonely, you could feel helpless and bored.
As early as 2009 John decided to buy out of his own pocket cuddly toys, magazines and sweets to distribute to young kids who were sadly in the sick kids hospital in Glasgow suffering from long term life threatening illnesses. Over the years John has helped kids in Edinburgh Sick Kids, Livingston, Falkirk, Grampian, Highlands and Kilmarnock (Ayrshire), in fact anywhere a child needs his help.
The John O'Byrne Foundation was born, by now John had excelled himself ... from arranging Christmas Parties in the Central Hotel in Glasgow, to raising through Disney On Ice in Braehead funds to aid Jade, a wee girl who sadly was ill aty the time. John used a new motto, "Disney On Ice today, Disneyland Paris or USA tomorrow".
He gave kids £10 at Christmas which gradually increased to a present day remarkable £100. Even through the difficult times of Covid 19, thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses, managed to open up the foundation's first caravan in Saltcoats whose prime aim is to give kid's and thier families, suffering or are recovering from life threatening illnesses the opportunity of a wee break away from the stresses, both mental and physical they have all endured. Olivia McCord from Clydebank was the first to enjoy the caravan, herself a cancer sufferer.
